Venturing off shore

A whole week away from Eva, I am sure she and the grandparents will be fine it is me that will struggle, still a chance to see friends in Sydney is much needed and it sounds like the heat wave has subsided.

I am hanging just to be normal and spend time with friends, it is a big part of putting all the pieces back together and ensuring me is me again.

Eva should have the grandparents fully straightened out by the time I get back, a skype call or four will be much needed.

To the winner goes the spoils

Ah finally a trophy and a true blue kiwi one at that, a win today, trophy, money and northland road champ to boot, when it hurts I think of all that has happened and it hurts no more . . . Karen never saw me ride my bike but I always feel she is with me and her energy is a big part of why it all seems so easy at the moment, I miss her more than ever.

Not wanting to tempt fate

Eva is as always towing the line and with the help of our bible (Save Our Sleep) successfully dropped the dream feed without a hitch, so now a true 7pm to 7am without a hitch. I waited until she had done a few nights before letting you all know, didn't want to tempt fate.

She continues to become more Eva Whyman and less baby each and every minute and shows determination, feistiness, will and tenacity that makes me so proud but also scares me shitless :-).

A Climber

Wow, a sprinter that can go up hills, long story short my three weeks of cram training paid off combined with a very easy taper week all came to fruitiion, 1st in age group, 3rd overall in a time of 5:40:23, the elite guys were a seperate race and if you add them in as well I got 11th fastest time, not so bad.

I had a great day, felt amazing and without a doubt had a couple of extra people with me when it was needed, I started in the second bunch as the first was full up to its 100 quota, after 70kms I was getting a bit bored so decided if in doubt have a go and departed my bunch in search of the front one, after a bit too much effort I manged to find them and by Thames was happily placed in the front bunch and having started three minutes behind them now well and truly in good standing, all I had to do now was get over the next three big bergs and amazingly I did, even beat the poor buggers home in the small bunch sprint.

I though it was enough for the win but unfortunately a couple of guys had snuck away from the front bunch early on so nevermind, can't complain, it was a great day, sun with incredible views, bring on the next challenge.

A huge thanks to Brian and Anne for putting up with me, Boult's morning coffee brew made all the difference.
